March – May (5 day hunts)
Are you ready for a new adventure? How about a unique trip to the jungle in search of ocellated turkey? We’ve teamed up with one of the most respected and professional outfitters in southern Mexico for a turkey hunt you’ll never forget. Ocellated turkeys are the smallest of all the turkeys, with males generally only weighing 10–12 pounds, but they have the largest spurs of all the turkeys. They’re beautiful with iridescent shades of aqua, purple, orange, and many other vibrant colors. In the recent past, our outfitter has delivered a nearly 100% shot opportunity on this amazing hunt.
No other hunting experience is like hunting in the jungle. Visibility is extremely limited, so the sound is just as important as sight as you seek the various game birds of the jungle. You don’t call or set up for ocellated turkeys. The goal is to locate the turkeys as they go to roost at night and start singing. Once you’ve found them in the evening, you know where to locate them the next morning.
Each day you head out with the target of a turkey, but you truly never know what you may see. Some species found in their 200,000-acre hunting area include great curassow, crested guan, tinamou, chachalaca, forest cougar, and, although rare, red and grey brocket deer. The area’s biodiversity is unmatched, with a conjunction of tropical forests ranging from high, medium, and low jungles. It sustains a large range of animal species, from big cats like the jaguar, the ocelot, the little tiger cat, and the jaguarundi to rare animals like the tapir and the anteater. Howler monkeys, spider monkeys, crocodiles, and more than 400 species of birds contribute to the vast biodiversity found in this marvelous land.
This is an affordable hunt, it isn’t far from the U.S., and it packs in a huge amount of adventure into one trip. We highly recommend it, whether you’re a big-time turkey hunter or just want a unique hunting experience.
Fly from the States to Merida, Mexico, and take the pre-arranged passenger van or car to Campeche Mexico, where you’ll stay Saturday night before being met Sunday morning for the drive to the jungle camp. You can begin your hunt that evening and hunt through the week before returning to Campeche on Saturday for the return trip home on Sunday.
