Red Stag and Fallow deer – March through August
Other species – Year round
Trout season is February – August
This hunt takes place on the picturesque South Island outside a small town about an hour’s drive from Queenstown. It’s an ideal location for families, couples, and small intact parties wanting total privacy. The new lodge sits atop a bluff overlooking wineries, orchards, farmland, and the beautiful Clutha River and features 5 guestrooms each with private baths with radiant heat flooring, a kitchen, a dining area, two sitting areas with satellite tv, wood-burning stove, and a deck with hot tub. Hunt red stag, tahr, chamois, fallow deer, rams, and more all from one luxury location. This location is not only perfect for hunting and fishing, but also perfect for non-hunters and families who want to explore the best of New Zealand with a professional and personal guide service. Action-packed waterfowl hunting (May–July) can also be arranged. Numerous stag properties are available, including one that you can glass animals from the lodge. There is a good network of roads that can get any hunter into some hard-to-reach locations without having to cover a lot of the tough and rugged terrain by foot. However, for those hunters who are willing and able, there are some hidden gems only accessible by foot.
New Zealand’s South Island is also famous for some of the best tahr and chamois hunting in the world and may easily be added to your hunt. Tahr have drawn hunters from around the world to New Zealand to hunt these magnificent animals. They are known for the steep, rugged, and remote habitat they live in and look very majestic in our mountains with their beautiful winter cape. Our outfitter hunts these animals a variety of ways from foot hunting and you may also choose the use of helicopters. Chamois are an agile, alert mountain antelope. These animals are challenging to hunt due to the habitat they live in and their sharp eyesight. Chamois are a very rewarding trophy and our outfitter regularly takes record book bucks.
This is the perfect destination for a Cast and Blast vacation. The New Zealand fly fishing experience is about the quality of the catch and they focus on the stalk and the fight allowing anglers to make the most of the overall excursion in beautiful surroundings with not another angler in sight. Their trout fishing guides know the surrounding lakes and rivers intimately and will put clients in the right spot to catch beautiful trophy fish. Clients typically catch rainbow trout, brown trout, and eels and typically fight several fish each outing. Trophy-class fish can exceed 24″ and put up an excellent battle. This is a fishing paradise for both fly-fishers and traditional tackle fishermen alike.
This is an ideal location for the non-hunting companion and entire family too. Guests can experience many local attractions close to the lodge, from shopping and day spas to vineyard tours, sightseeing, horse riding, and snow skiing. Your personal tours/side trips may easily be set up upon arrival and every package can be designed to meet individual clients’ needs as our outfitter has personal tour guides to ensure a hassle-free and unforgettable experience. Plenty of other activities are offered including fishing (fresh and saltwater), shopping, day spas, golf, skiing (June–August), vineyards, helicopter tours, jet boating, Milford Sound. Be sure to ask about the Fiordland scenic flight where you will experience the best scenery in New Zealand with giant waterfalls, glaciers, and stunning fiords. You will land on the coast and your guide will dive for lobster and abalone, then you will fly to the untouched wilderness to cook your seafood and other New Zealand delicacies for lunch. A day most people say was “one of the best days of their life”..
